For instance, a study that was published in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/10.1056\/NEJMoa1815408\"><i>The New England Journal of Medicine<\/i><\/a>&nbsp;showed that seven of the babies suffering from SCID, when treated with gene therapy, developed&nbsp;immune systems that can protect them against common childhood ailments.
