On 04 December 2023, Singapore General Hospital (SGH) patients stand to gain from advancements in healthcare through the collaboration between Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), and the establishment of a Joint Research & Development Laboratory in additive manufacturing (AM) – also known as 3D printing.

These ongoing innovations signify a significant stride towards pioneering healthcare solutions that have the potential to redefine patient care. The partnership harnesses the collective expertise and resources of SGH's 3D Printing Centre and NTU's Singapore Centre for 3D Printing  to explore and advance technologies relevant to clinical applications in a point-of-care setting.

The Joint R&D Lab in additive manufacturing will concentrate on four key areas:

  • Development of Prosthetic & Orthotic Devices
  • Advancements in Bioprinting for Regenerative Medicine
  • Creation of 3D Printed Implants at the Point-of-Care
  • Exploration and Analysis of Additive Manufacturing Technology for Healthcare Applications
